No pictures tonight, just feeling grateful for a wonderful daughter who saved us from more worries. Unbelievably, we arrived at the border not realizing we did not have our current registration with us for either truck or trailer. So many other papers, certification for vehicle worthiness, pet shot records, Mexican insurance and more and more, we failed to grab these very important docs. We had last years but not these. Just a crazily, Kristina and Paul had the same issue and it required a 100 dollar "fine" ie: just leave it in the trailer and I will pick up (from the border agent) and they were allowed to pass and not turn back. We were able to pull up the DMV site on my phone and show the agent our renewal date to prove we had paid registration. He gave us a stern warning and said that in Mexico you must show the paper version but no "fine". We were already the last to go through and were very shaken and so, of course, missed a crucial turn to catch the other 7 trailers. A Mexican fellow named Ed who had obtained our Mexican Visas for us in the morning caught up with us and lead us back to our route and we caught up several miles later with our group.
Now back to our helper/daughter Rachel, less than 2 hours later she had gone through our files, found the needed documents for the latest registration for both truck and trailer and emailed them to us. Part of our group who are full timers in their Class A RV had a printer and so we now have the documents from DMV for any other stop by officials. We were told going through the border and the first miles through Tecate may be the most challenging of the trip. We are banking on that! Tomorrow we have some heavy duty wine tours and wine tasting ahead of us. I truly think we are up for that. Everyone on this trip has been so accommodating and friendly. We all just sat and got to know each other this afternoon.
RV parks are indeed more rustic though they are enough. Lovely clean bathrooms and showers are available and that is all we need. Am sure more pictures and less whining tomorrow.
Whew, what a start. I bet a few weeks and few miles down the road you'll laugh about it.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the wine tasting.
Amen to getting across the border and not having to go back. The $100 to the border agent was worth it!!!
