Lazaro Cardenas Overnight

Fairly easy drive, not many stop lights and about 130 miles on Highway 1, a good road. We saw many small towns and enjoyed seeing the life in the towns along the road.  Highway goes straight through these towns and we stopped for "body breaks" along some interesting town squares. Many people doing business, going to school, and just doing life. There were many businesses and homes with first floor finished, people living in them or business being conducted but rebar sticking up for second floor but unfinished. We were thinking that they are built as they have cash flow but learned that another possibility exists. In Mexico as well as US. the taxes do not start until the final is approved. The question remains to be answered whether or not people in Mexico are able get mortgages to complete homes and who qualifies if they are available. We will be looking for someone who can answer that question. We arrived at the Hotel Mission Santa Maria at about 1:30pm. Tonight we are in the parking lot, within feet of the beach and dunes. We set up chairs and had happy hours watching the dolphins feed and the pelicans dive into the water to get pieces of fish. This is just the start of the group in the picture before it grew. I am on the left, then Ruth, Kurt and Diane. They are from Vancouver, BC and traveled 3000 miles even before they reached Potero and our joining together.

This delightful couple are Greg and Ann from Lompoc, California. We have traveled with them before and they recruited us for this trip.

This is a view off to the north, you can just barely see the old volcanos, may be the Three Sisters and a bit of the ocean at Lazaro Cardenas.

The Hotel Mission Santa Maria which faces the beach and dunes. We are having dinner there tonight. This hotel was built far out by the beach by the Mexican Tourism Department several years ago. At dinner, it seemed the hotel was not exactly crowded but must keep in mind the borders just opened. It has a very large patio in the middle of building which is open to the sky. A cricket was chirping in the patio as we left tonight.
