First Views of Baja Pacifica at Punta Banda

Today, Tuesday, we had a start at 9:00 am and proceeded from Valle de Guadalupe to Ensenada. Ensenada is a major sea port for this area and has all the amenities to include Costco, Walmart and several Walmart look a likes. You see mainly Spanish on the signs but also a good amount of English. This has been a major destination for Americans for years. The sport fishermen discovered it in the sixties. The renowned Hotel Riviera del Pacifico is in Ensanada, though, we are told it is now a Community Center. It was built in the 30s and frequented by many of the same people who frequented Las Vegas. It closed with the passage of prohibition.

Construction on the roads and buildings in on going in Ensenada as it is a major seaport. We laughed when we were in the right lane with a 3 or 4 foot drop off on the side of the road. In California is it is 2 inches we get a sign that says no shoulder, not here. The roads are full of big trucks carrying containers from the port and all other business related traffic. We did not see too many other tourists as the border only officially opened on the 8th. We got in a day early due to our Baja Amigos pulling some strings with the officials. We convoyed through all this communicating with walkie talkies and our leaders telling us what is ahead. Stop signs are often hidden in unexpected spots with the cops waiting in the sidelines.

We had a stop at Costco and a grocery store and was great wandering around. We have no room for a Costco purchases and only bought a few groceries. The layout of the Costco was very similar to at home with many of the same items. We were there for about 1.5 hours with lunch then on to Punta Banda. Tonight we are in a rather bare bones park and, in fact, someone in the park had to repair several electrical hookups as they were not functioning. Each place we have stopped shows disrepair and disuse prior to our arrival. This is not surprising since so much time has past since tourists like us have come to Baja.

We and Tucker took a long walk on the beach and his little body just radiated doggie happiness as he ran and ran chasing his toy we throw for him. In fact, we stayed back to do the beach walk instead of going to La Bufando this afternoon. We figured we had seen a most magnificent blow hole in New Zealand and we owed him a walk after all his time in the trailer and pickup.

Catchng up on pictures, this sheep corral at Valle de Guadalupe was near our camp. This exists in the same area as the beautiful wineries we visited and our RV stop.

Jim on the Beach at Punta Banda where we walked and enjoyed the ocean. Strange place, it seems COVID took the life out and it has not yet returned to the RV park where we stayed and the businesses people rely on. Hopefully, the economy will bounce back this next year.
