Day Before Baja
Today, our day before we head to our first stop in Bakersfield, we and our dear neighbors Kristina and Paul are doing last minute errands. You can see their newer and cleaner (Paul washed it yesterday) Escape. We are joining 5 other trailers and our Canadian guides on Saturday in Portero State Park for our orientation before we cross the border in a convoy on Sunday. Our guides have required a mechanical go through for both our tow vehicles and trailers with similar requirements for us. Their company Baja Amigos has lead over 80 tours to both Baja Mexico and mainland Mexico, so we feel they know their way including routes, places to eat, what to eat and not eat. We are feeling really excited as this trip finally happens as it was cancelled last year at this same time. So we have been looking forward to this for almost 2 years. Wish us luck!
The Flamingos which have been our traveling companions since we started with our first trailer, the Casita, in 2013 are practicing looking good in our entryway till they load into the pickup. These will be the most southern beaches they have ever seen. They usually dress for the holidays, so will need Thanksgiving garb for the trip.
Very excited Jim making the final loads in the back of the Tacoma. The little Tacoma who has been our stalwart pickup since 2013 will be joined by one other Tacoma and then in the shadow of the "big boys" the likes of GMC, Ford and Dodge. Our little "engine that will" hopefully is not going to be intimidated.
You may wonder why we have a picture of our backyard in this "before the trip entry", especially since it is painfully bare. Mid November, while we are traveling, Andy Gagnon's great crew are moving in to make some major changes. We have been concerned about the uneven bricks and stumbling which could make a crimp in this travel fun so Andy is replacing with a poured surface. The wisteria is now gone, as is the bench and raised flower bed. They will put in new landscaping with an eye to less work maintaining. I had to watch Jim rake and blow the wisteria droppings almost daily and it was disturbing to this princess reading her book. Sweet guy, he hardly ever whined but jumped at the chance to see it go. The arbor remains with new stain and canvas shade covers which can be pulled open or shut will be installed in January. Thanks so much for being interested in this journey, am hoping to have some interesting stories to tell.
Have a wonderful, safe trip you two. Look forward to reading about your adventures.
ReplyDeleteHi Patty. Don’t know why it made you unknown.
